My Story:
STATS
I began bodybuilding at the age of 20. At the time I was attending McMaster University and was playing football for the McMaster Maurauder football club. At first I just wanted to gain some size and strength to improve at football. I quickly learned however that I enjoyed weight training much more than football and decided to focus strictly on bodybuilding.
In 1997 at the age of 23 I earned my personal trainer certification. This allowed me to start training clients and I quickly discovered how rewarding it can be to help others reach their fitness goals. I also had a strong desire to learn as much as I could about exercise physiology and exercise science. I studied under some of the leading minds in this field such as Dr. Mark Tarnipolski and Dr. Digby Sale.
After graduating from McMaster in 2000 with a Kinesiology degree, I decided it was time to begin competing in bodybuilding. I felt that I had developed enough muscle size and training knowledge that I could be successful in competitions. I did have a professional bodybuilder named Art Dilkes who took me under his wing and guided me through the process. I learned alot of things working with a professional bodybuilder. The kinds of things that they do not teach you in university such as back stage prep, tanning, pumping up, posing, water depletion, sodium manipulation, carb loading, and more! Under Art's guidance I won my first regional show in my first year and in just two years competed in my first National contest.
Believing that education is essential to being successful, I have been committed to continual learning and earned additional degrees and certifications. In 2001 I completed my Masters of Science in Physical Education, in 2006 earned my Physical Education Specialist through Nippising University, and in 2007 earned a Certificate in Sports Nutrition through ISSN.
In 2008 I decided to step away from competition for a time, with plans to possibly compete as a masters competitor in the near future. For the time being it gives me great pleasure to train new bodybuilders and pass on the knowledge I gained through years of competition and studies. My past clients include top athletes, champion bodybuilders / fitness athletes, and regular people looking to get into the shape of their lives!
